Contemporary Photography in Asia is a nice coffee table type publication that holds a significant section on modern and contemporary Japanese photography, including well known artists as Yasumasa Morimura and Nobuyoshi Araki. Although the title implies a full survey of photography in all Asian regions, the editors Keiko S. Hooton and Tony Godfrey only present photographers from East Asia and Southeast Asia.
The Japan section comprises of sixteen different photographers, which are introduced to the reader in a two page essay by Keiko S. Hooton. Of each photographer, two to five photographs are shown along with a short biography in the back of the book. The Japanese photographers in this collection are (surnames last): Rinko Kawauchi; Nao Tsuda; Risaku Suzuki; Maiko Haruki; Naoya Hatakeyama; Taiji Matsue; Cozue Takagi; Yasumasa Morimura; Takashi Honma; Sohei Nishino; Noguchi Rika; Ichigo Sugawara; Nobuyoshi Araki; Ken Kitano; Yuki Onodera and Daido Moriyama.
